Popcorn Tea? Japanese Genmaicha Green Tea

Japanese Genmaicha Green Tea, also known as "popcorn tea," is a unique blend of green tea leaves and roasted popped brown rice. The delicate green tea and the nutty, toasted aroma of the rice create a well-balanced, earthy flavor that is both comforting and satisfying. The green tea's mild bitterness is softened by the warm, roasted notes of the rice.

The popped rice adds a light sweetness and a subtle, savory quality, almost reminiscent of popcorn, which gives Genmaicha its distinctive character. Its inviting aroma, with hints of roasted grains and fresh green tea, makes it an ideal choice for those who enjoy a hearty yet mellow tea experience.

Genmaicha is often enjoyed as a warming, everyday tea that’s flavorful and easy to drink. It's perfect for pairing with meals or as a calming afternoon brew.

How to make this tea:

Always use only fresh filtered water or spring water. Fine water makes a finer cup of tea, and you will taste the difference.

Never reuse previously boiled water. Always use fresh water. This ensures brewing a finer cup of tea.

It's crucial not to use boiling water for any Green Tea! Here's the correct method: Bring the water to a boil, then let it cool for 1-2 minutes until it reaches about 185°F to 180°F.

Using boiling water can scald and damage the delicate Green Tea, resulting in bitterness. This can lead to a misunderstanding that the Green Tea itself is bitter when, in fact, it was brewed incorrectly.

The recommended ratio is 1 to 2 teaspoons of tea leaves per 8-ounce cup. (250ml)

Ashanti's comments as a tea lover🥰:

This is a great green tea if you are looking for an alternative to your typical green tea.

The toasted rice adds a bit of a nutty flavor. Enjoy it without adding anything else.

I like to scoop out the toasted rice and add it back to the brewed and strained tea and eat it while sipping the tea.
